Company Profile : In 1895, Alexander
Barrie had the vision to begin building a company that would meet the
needs of the electrical and telephone industries, which were then in their
infancy. His company eventually became part of the multi-billion dollar
telecommunications giant Northern Telecom (now NORTEL). In 1996, NORTEL
sold its cable group to Cable Design Technologies (CDT), creating NORDX/CDT
- one of the leading manufacturers of communications wire and cable in the
world. Here's how we got there. 1895: Alexander Barrie begins cabling manufacturing firm. 1899: Bell Telephone purchases Barrie & Johnson Manufacturing Wire & Cable Company. 1914: Imperial
Wire & Cable Company amalgamates with Northern Electric &
Manufacturing Company. 1946: Northern
Electric constructs 300,000 sq. ft. wire cable manufacturing facility in
Montreal. 1996: NORTEL
Cable Group becomes part of Cable Design
Technologies (CDT), forming one of the largest structured cabling
suppliers in the world - NORDX/CDT. 2002: NORDX/CDT
leads the way in the new millennium. NORDX now manufactures and markets
over 2,000 different products, including the cables, connectors and patch
panels of the IBDN structured cabling system and communications cables for
outside plant needs. Products :
